Optimising the Millennium Horse
The Poser Millennium Horse from Daz3d for all
of it's problems is still light years ahead of the standard Poser 3/4/5 Horse figure,
it has beautifully modelled musculature and an integral transparency mapped mane,
tail and fetlocks equipped with loads of morphs.
The downside to all of this is the sheer size
of the CR2 and the length of time that it takes to load and pose on some older computers.
By stripping out all of the unneeded morphs that
are in the CR2 (Poser file format) I have managed to get the file size down from
a whopping 42.2mb to my "lite" version at 6.12
The technique that I used to do this uses only
free utilities and is applicable to any Poser figure that has more morphs than you
need. I have written the following short tutorial to help others do the same.
A lesson in Morph Manager and CR2editor.
Needed Utilities:
| Part one - Removing the
unwanted morphs |
Click on an image to
view a larger version. |
| Open up Morph Manager.
Click load file and select your Millennium
Horse CR2.
Click on the "plus sign" on the first body
part to expand the tree.
Click on the "plus sign" on "Morph Targets".
|
|
| You will see a list of all the morph targets
for that body part.
Important! DO NOT remove the morphs
that start with PMBDC_ as these do not contain any deltas or take up much
memory but are there to enable you to inject new custom morphs into the
figure via a pose.
|
 |
| Select the morphs that you want to remove and
either press the delete key on your keyboard or right click and select delete
from the menu. |
 |
| Click OK to delete the morph target.
Repeat for all the unneeded morphs on all of the body parts remembering
which you deleted.
|
 |
| Click on the Save File button and save your
new character with a unique name, I used "Millie Horse Lite". |
 |
Part 2, using CR2Editor to remove the unwanted full body morphs coming soon!
